Mark Rules!

We didn't really tell anyone, because we're far too superstitious, but Mark recently submitted a couple of screenplays to the Slamdance Horror Competition. And if you look here you will see his name on the list of semi-finalists! Right there in the middle of a list of people who have no chance of winning. Seriously though, how could he lose to something called Porn Star Zombies? I mean, I know this isn't Oscar caliber stuff we're talking about, but really! Anyway, we're very excited, and waiting impatiently for more news of the next cut to five finalists. Stay Tuned!

P.S. See, Alex, I can do it!

I was so, so very happy when I read this...because I knew that you had learned how to create a hyperlink...and then, when I saw your PS- well, my eyes just teared up. I was that happy.

Oh. Good luck to Mark, too!

Gee, thanks, you almost sound sincere!

Hey- that's not fair. I always sound almost sincere. I was thinking today that I am going to beg for the part of the fat security guard who gets whacked.

(That is required by the laws of the genre, right, a fat security guard who gets whacked?)

Sorry, but your genre ignorance will get you nothing but a role as an already bloated corpse.

i love encouragement from alex, he pokes and goads you with sincere affection (that tastes a lot like castor oil) until you do what he knows you're capable of. it's kind of sweet in an alex kind of way...

i did NOT get the email. but i responded to alex's email about jane smiley today. i'm home sick, reading about ireland and trying to make felted knit chickens. alex, do not tell bobbi. i have what amounts to a franken knit chicken (ooh, make those three words into one good term, my brain's incapable today). pieces and some scattered, flu addled thoughts about how to put them together.

yay mark! scary, scary submitting writing to the outside world. he gets applause for that alone! never mind the celebration of a completed piece. very cool. keeping my chickens crossed in luck...

Thanks Kate! He sends things out every once in a while, but he hates doing it. The only reason he does is to shut me up and get me to stop pestering him incessantly!

I'm not sure what would be better than franken knit chickens, to be honest.

Thanks again for the crossed chickens, and Alex, I'll let you know when auditions for dead extras start, okay?

So...if you two do end up blogging together, that would mean that i would be able to comment to BOTH of you here, and not just Heather (whom I have NOT had an email from in quite some time...I ain't complainin', I'm just sayin' .... anyway--

NO CHICKENS-- God Kate..enough...Haven't you learned ANYTHING from Bobbi's fate?

I actually thought of Bobbi's chicken thing last night...i was watching a documentary on Animals, and it show'd a fox stealing into a hen house....oh, how the feather flew! Very funny...don't tell bobbi!

Heather- I am NOT auditioning for the part of a dead extra-- my resume speaks for itself-

PS- WHAT genre ignorance...tell me, in what horror movie is there not a security guard, or security guard surrogate who doesn't get whacked!?

It's the same in EVERY movie...somebody with a flash light sticks their head into the barn/cabin/hotel/car/cave says..."Hello?" And WHACK!

Cut to broken flashlight rollling on the ground.

Heather said...

Let me assure you that there are no security guards in this movie. There are in fact NO flashlights in this movie. There is a police officer, but he isn't normal, in any event. You don't think I would be married to someone so pedestrian as to put a scene like that in? I'm offended, really I am!

any more news on the submission?

Alex said...

But HOWcan it POSSIBLY be a horror movie without those things? How?How?How?How?How?How?How?How?

PS- Kate's Right...any new word about the submission?

Submission update. I still won't submit. No, wait, that's not the question, is it?

Actually, the Slamdance people have pretty much blown by every deadline they set. First the top five were supposed to be announced on the 5th. Then the 8th. Then the 12th. Then the 15th. Now the 18th. Who knows? One of the parts of the "prize" is passes to the film festival in Utah, which starts on the 18th. Not giving people much time to make plans. Still hoping...

alex, you don't watch horror movies. how can you pretend expertise about horror plot design beyond "it's gotta be scary"? oh wait. you read that book didn't you. why'd you read the book if you don't watch the genre? to know stuff so you can be all alex. never mind, i'm answering my own questions today. why? because i can darn it.

Congratulations to Mark!

I'm also a semifinalist for the Slamdance Horror Competition, and like you I'm eagerly awaiting more news.

A number of the other semifinalists have introduced themselves on my blog, and I wanted to invite Mark to come over and say hi to the group.
